The State's Digital Government Platform
News update — May 2026: The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) announced that more than 12.3 million Texans — about 53% of the state’s age-eligible population — have created accounts on Texas by Texas (TxT), the state’s official digital government platform. The platform has now facilitated more than 29.6 million transactions since launch. Source: Texas Department of Information Resources, Office of Public Affairs, May 2026 release.
Texas by Texas (TxT) is the State of Texas’s official consolidated digital government application, providing residents a single point of access to driver license services, vehicle and boat registration, professional licensing renewals, payment storage, and renewal reminders across multiple state agencies. The platform is operated by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) as part of the Texas.gov program, and is implemented under contract by Deloitte. This page covers TxT’s scope, the agency services it integrates, adoption metrics published by DIR, and announced expansion plans.

Definition and scope
TxT is the consumer-facing layer of Texas.gov, the state’s consolidated portal for digital government services. Rather than visiting individual agency websites or in-person offices for routine transactions, Texans use a single account to authenticate once, link existing credentials (such as driver license, vehicle registration, and professional license records), store payment methods, receive renewal reminders, and complete transactions from a unified dashboard. The platform is available as a mobile application and a web interface.
TxT operates under a centralized service-delivery model: state agencies retain ownership of their underlying records and regulatory authority, while TxT provides the identity layer, the payment infrastructure, and the user experience surface that connects those agency systems to the public.
Adoption and usage
As of May 1, 2026, DIR reports the following adoption figures:
- More than 12.3 million Texans have created TxT accounts.
- This represents approximately 53% of the state’s age-eligible population.
- Approximately 7,000 new accounts are created per day, on average over the months preceding the announcement.
- Cumulative transactions facilitated through the platform exceed 29.6 million since launch.
The 53% milestone marks the first time that more than half of age-eligible Texans hold accounts on the state’s consolidated digital government application. DIR characterizes the threshold as a structural shift in how the public interacts with state government, with transactions moving away from agency-specific systems and toward a single consolidated platform.
Services available through TxT
DIR lists the following high-volume agency services as currently integrated with TxT:
- Driver license and identification card services — administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- Vehicle registration — administered by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Boat registration — administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
- Massage therapy licensing — administered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
DIR has stated additional agency services are being integrated on an ongoing basis as the platform expands its scope.
User experience and satisfaction
DIR reports the following user-experience indicators for the TxT application:
- Approximately 93% of surveyed users report satisfaction with the platform.
- Apple App Store rating: 4.9 out of 5.
- Google Play rating: 4.8 out of 5.
A representative user review cited in the DIR release states: “It took me under 10 minutes to get registration done, all from the phone and in my own time.”
Announced expansions
DIR has announced the following planned updates to TxT for later in 2026:
- Out-of-state access: Individuals 18 and older without a Texas driver license or state ID will be able to create a TxT account after completing identity verification.
- Barcode scanning during sign-up: Streamlined account creation by scanning credentials rather than entering them manually.
- Faster integration of government services: Reduced time-to-onboard for new agency services joining the platform.
- Improved digital accessibility: Updates to support Texans of all abilities, including users of assistive technology.
Governance and operations
TxT is operated by the Texas Department of Information Resources, the state agency responsible for leading Texas’s technology strategy, protecting state technology infrastructure, and providing cost-effective solutions across levels of Texas government. DIR’s Executive Director and State of Texas Chief Information Officer, Tony Sauerhoff, characterizes the platform as part of DIR’s mission to make government services more accessible and efficient for Texas residents.
Deloitte develops and maintains the TxT platform under contract with DIR.
Note on related state authority: TxT and the broader Texas.gov program are DIR responsibilities. As of 2026, the State of Texas’s statewide cybersecurity authority was transferred under HB 150 from DIR to the Texas Cyber Command (TXCC); DIR retains digital government, statewide IT services, and the TxT platform.

Over half of Texas now uses a single, official platform to access state services
More Texans than don't now use the state's official digital government application Texas by Texas (TxT), marking a shift in how the public accesses government services as the state prepares to expand the system to even more users this year.
As of May 1, 2026, more than 12.3 million Texans—about 53% of the state's age-eligible population—have a TxT account to access services through the state's official digital government assistant, where Texans log in once to link credentials, store payment methods, receive renewal reminders, and complete transactions from a single dashboard. On average over the last few months, about 7,000 Texans sign up for a TxT account every day. Since its inception, the platform has facilitated more than 29.6 million transactions.
The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) manages the Texas.gov program including the TxT platform, which Deloitte develops and maintains under contract. The goal is to increase ease of use for Texans across the state.
"DIR's vision is to transform how Texas government serves Texans, which includes helping the state deliver more accessible and efficient services," said Tony Sauerhoff, DIR Executive Director and State of Texas Chief Information Officer. "With the TxT platform, our focus is on making government services easier for Texans to access and use, saving time and money for all involved."
Transactions through the TxT platform span a growing set of high-volume services across state government, including driver license and ID services through the Texas Department of Public Safety, vehicle registration through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, boat registration through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and massage licensing through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
As additional services and features are added, TxT is consolidating how Texans interact with state government, shifting routine transactions away from disparate agency systems and onto a single, consolidated platform.
Users can access services through TxT's mobile app or a web browser instead of visiting an office. Texans who use the app approve of its convenience, with about 93% of surveyed users reporting satisfaction. The app currently holds ratings of 4.9 out of 5 on Apple's App Store and 4.8 out of 5 on Google Play.
"It took me under 10 minutes to get registration done, all from the phone and in my own time," one user wrote in a review.
Users and agencies alike save time and money when transactions occur through the TxT platform instead of in person. A planned update later this year will expand access to out-of-state users by allowing individuals 18 and older without a Texas driver's license or state ID to create a TxT account after completing identity verification. Additional planned updates include barcode scanning during sign-up, faster integration of government services, and improved digital accessibility for Texans of all abilities.
